Happenings in the Kabin Teacher Comments: Wow! It's Thanksgiving already. Time really flies when you are busy. I love it!
Let's put first things first; this year we are emphasizing the 7 Habits of effective people. We have taught and continue to emphasize the 1st & 2nd habits, now we'll add the third habit: Put first things first. Each time we being a new project or star a new task we have to remember to star at the starting point and continue until we have completed the task. Parents, take a moment to ask your student(s) about their beginning point, where do they start when they start a new project or task? How do they put it into practice?
REMINDER!!! This is a short week, school will end at 1:05PM on Wednesday.
We are approaching the end of the second unit in our reading texts. Which means that we'll be putting out the next spelling unit list soon. Watch for it.
Parents you should ask to see the spelling list and keep a copy on the refrigerator or someplace where your student can work with it on a daily basis. I recommend 5 - 10 minutes per day, with parents calling out a word and the student spelling that word back to them. You could do this as a part of your morning ritual.
In Language Arts we have completed unit 2 and are moving on to unit 3. Remember to check your student's homework, there should be SOMETHING for you to look at, sign, and return every day.
In Math we have been working on multiplying & dividing fractions and ecimals. I think the kids could use some extra practice time. Perhaps the next time you visit the store, when you buy multiples of something (cereal for example), you could have your student multiply the cost of each item in his or her head. Again, encourage your student(s) to teach you what they know. This will give them a new appreciation for the material and sink it even deeper intot heir unconscious memories.
I have decided to open the new year with auditions for Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors, at this point there is no clear date for the performance(s). But rehearsal will be after school M - TH. I will send home a schedule of rehearsals and rules. We will perform for the school and then again for the parents and I will let you know when that happens.
So my friends, we'll keep on keeping on. Look for updates to this note as I can get to them (I am shooting for weekly, but so far ... well you know how THAT has gone).
